Book Fair
Sri Sivananda Balalaya celebrated Children’s Day in a novel way by arranging the 3rd Edition of Balalaya Children’s Book Fair. The objective was to introduce the children to the magic world of knowledge through books. For book lovers the Fair was a bonanza with books of myriad areas of knowledge. The Fair was declared open by Dr. Swaroop Rani, Associate Professor of Library Science, Bishop Heber College, Trichy, who made the first buy.

There were about 5,000 books. Hachette, Euro kids, Kids Animation, Westland, East-West, Sterling, Tulika were some of the publishers whose books were displayed. Universal Book House and Mallika Book House were the chief organizers. The unique feature of the Fair was that one section of the Fair was managed entirely by the students – right from welcoming the visitors, encouraging parents and children to buy, and finally billing. It was a hands - on experience for the students. They really enjoyed the role of being book lovers cum book sellers. The rushing throng of parents and kids at the Fair was highly encouraging to the organizers. The reading habit is not dead but flourishing!
