The 2-day workshop for teachers of pre-school and primary classes organized by Sri Sivananda Balalaya was a highly enriching programme, which provoked the participants to think out-of-the-box regarding teaching-learning at the early stages. The resource persons were an extraordinary couple, Aruna Ragavan and Ragavan, who are steeped in the philosophy of Glenn Doman, a great educationalist. They are not mere Theorists but are practicing and implementing in Toto and with full convocation the Doman philosophy-“Every child can learn”-in their non-conventional school “Shikshayatan” in a rural area. They took the participants fully along with them, starting from a detailed development profile of a child 0-6 years to the later sessions on language, maths ,science and geography. The magic flash card method, a path breaking innovative methodology simply caught the imagination of the participants it was a revelation to them that anything – language, numbers, science, geographical facts could be effectively thought using the cards and they vowed to practice this in their classroom. Creeping crawling patterning was another methodology the participants learnt to activate the child’s brain. The session was not only informative but highly enjoyable also since the resource persons infused the programmer with lots of humor.
